77th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2013 Regular Session Enrolled Senate Concurrent Resolution 17 Sponsored by Senators WINTERS, COURTNEY, Representatives CAMERON, CLEM, BERGER, KOMP, WEIDNER; Senators BAERTSCHIGER JR, BATES, BEYER, BOQUIST, CLOSE, DEVLIN, EDWARDS, FERRIOLI, GEORGE, GIROD, HANSELL, HASS, JOHNSON, KNOPP, KRUSE, MONNES ANDERSON, MONROE, OLSEN, PROZANSKI, ROBLAN, ROSENBAUM, SHIELDS, STARR, STEINER HAYWARD, THOMSEN, WHITSETT, Representatives BAILEY, BARKER, BARNHART, BARTON, BENTZ, BOONE, BUCKLEY, CONGER, DAVIS, DEMBROW, DOHERTY, ESQUIVEL, FAGAN, FREDERICK, FREEMAN, GALLEGOS, GARRETT, GELSER, GILLIAM, GORSEK, GREENLICK, HANNA, HARKER, HICKS, HOLVEY, HOYLE, HUFFMAN, JENSON, JOHNSON, KENNEMER, KENY-GUYER, KOTEK, KRIEGER, LIVELY, MATTHEWS, MCKEOWN, MCLANE, NATHANSON, OLSON, PARRISH, READ, REARDON, RICHARDSON, SMITH, SPRENGER, THATCHER, THOMPSON, TOMEI, UNGER, VEGA PEDERSON, WHISNANT, WHITSETT, WILLIAMSON, WITT Whereas Michael McLaran ably served his state and community during many years of dedicated service; and Whereas Michael McLaran was a champion for Salem businesses and helped bring numerous jobs to the community while serving as the chief executive officer of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce from 1995 to 2011; and Whereas Michael McLaran led the efforts to build the Salem Convention Center and adjoining hotel and the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center; and Whereas Michael McLaran was the executive director of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce and worked for United Way of Linn County before moving to Salem; and Whereas Michael McLaran was dedicated to strengthening Oregon's education system, establishing an outreach program to bring businesspeople into schools to share information with students, conduct mock interviews and offer internships; and Whereas in 2004 Michael McLaran helped to establish the Ready to Learn Ready to Work Program in the Salem-Keizer area; and Whereas Michael McLaran had a lifelong passion for baseball, receiving a full baseball scholarship to the University of Oregon and coaching high school teams; and Whereas Michael McLaran served with the Salem Hospital Foundation board of directors and with the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America; and Whereas Michael McLaran earned numerous awards, including the Russell E. Pettit Memorial Excellence in Leadership Award and the Vern Miller Key Citizen Award; and Whereas Michael McLaran received an honorary doctorate degree from Corban University for his extensive community service and his reputation as a man of high integrity; and Whereas Michael McLaran's faith in God influenced his dedication to family and community; and Whereas Michael McLaran has been described as 'a giant of our time'; and Whereas Michael McLaran passed away suddenly on March 30, 2013, at age 53; and Enrolled Senate Concurrent Resolution 17 (SCR 17-INTRO) Page 1 Whereas Michael McLaran leaves behind his wife Diane, his son Chris, his daughter Katie, his step-daughter Alisha, his brother Dan, his sister Joan, his parents Chuck and Kathy and his grandchildren, Kaia, Lauren, Ava, Davis, Liam and Wyatt Michael; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Seventy-seventh Legislative Assembly, honor Michael McLaran for his exemplary life and years of dedicated leadership and service to the community; and be it further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be presented to Michael McLaran's family as an expression of our sympathy and condolences. ---------- Adopted by Senate May 16, 2013 ---------------------------------- Robert Taylor, Secretary of Senate ---------------------------------- Peter Courtney, President of Senate Adopted by House June 11, 2013 ---------------------------------- Tina Kotek, Speaker of House Enrolled Senate Concurrent Resolution 17 (SCR 17-INTRO) Page 2
