SUMMARY

Commends and honors Dr. David Shaw, M.D., for his inspiring
volunteer humanitarian service and for his ongoing contributions
to orthopedic care of patients in Salem, Oregon, and around
world.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., a Salem orthopedic surgeon, has been
practicing medicine and improving the health of people in Salem,
Oregon, for over 33 years; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., was honored as the first recipient of
the Marion-Polk County Medical Society President's Achievement
Award in 2005; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., was born and raised in India and
attended the University of Lucknow, in Lucknow, India, where he
received a bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., attended Christian Medical College in
Punjab, India, where he received his doctorate of medicine; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., completed his United States residency
in Orthopedic Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University;
and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., joined the practice of Drs. Paulson
and Gallagher in Salem, Oregon, in 1978; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., is a proud father of three,
grandfather of three and a gifted woodworker; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., was inspired to help others in the
United States and abroad after experiencing the illness and loss
of his own mother at an early age; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., volunteered in 1995 with a medical
group sponsored by the Salem Alliance Church to serve in Guinea
and treat 4,000 patients; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., has made four mission trips to West
Africa to provide medical care to patients; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., has volunteered with El Cielo para
los Ni?os de Ecuador to provide orthopedic care to children in
Ecuador and continues to make several mission trips a year to
Ecuador to provide orthopedic care to children; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., during each trip to Ecuador, performs
over 60 surgeries involving debilitating conditions that
otherwise would go untreated; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., through his pursuit of humanitarian
aims, has inspired other doctors, medical professionals and
support staff to serve in Ecuador and other locations around the
world and to donate time, money and equipment to assist these
efforts; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., treats his patients and their
families with compassion, dignity and respect and skillfully and
graciously accommodates the needs of patients with disabilities;
and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., continues his volunteer work in
support of a vision for increasing medical accessibility in
Ecuador; and
Whereas David Shaw, M.D., also continues to serve the needs of
patients in Salem, Oregon, and to inspire a passion for
humanitarian service in others; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly,
commend and honor Dr. David Shaw, M.D., for his inspiring
volunteer humanitarian service and for his ongoing contributions
to the orthopedic care of patients in Salem, Oregon, and around
the world.
