  Whereas the Republic of Turkey and the United States of America
are long-standing friends and allies, both dearly cherishing the
universal values of freedom, democracy and human rights; and
  Whereas in its alliance with the United States, the Republic of
Turkey has demonstrated its commitment to world peace and
liberty, as well as its tolerance of others in the secular and
religious venues; and
  Whereas the Republic of Turkey, which ranks as one of the
world's largest economies and Europe's sixth-largest economy, is
a valued trading partner with the State of Oregon and is to be
commended on its contributions to the global economy; and
  Whereas the State of Oregon and the Republic of Turkey have
enjoyed a strong, vibrant and mutually beneficial economic
relationship with the prospect of further growth; and
  Whereas it is the custom of the State of Oregon to welcome all
who come to our state, especially those who come in the interest
of friendship and commerce; and
  Whereas it is in the best interest of the State of Oregon to
further cultivate the good relationship between Oregon and the
Republic of Turkey and other Turkic nations; and
  Whereas it is the policy of the Oregon House of Representatives
to recognize the contributions of our allies and friends and the
value of maintaining beneficial relationships with them, such as
the contributions made by the Republic of Turkey and the value of
our positive relationship with the Republic of Turkey; now,
therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
  Oregon:

  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the
Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly, recognize the many
contributions made by the citizens of the Republic of Turkey; and
be it further
  Resolved, That an Oregonian-Turkish Friendship Task Force is
proposed to be created to further the long-standing Oregon-Turkey
relations and build upon our time-honored friendships, as well as
to promote further cultural, educational, academic, political and
economic relations between Oregonians and the Turkish people; and
be it further
  Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be sent to the
Pacifica Institute doing business as the Rosegarden
Turkish-American Cultural Center and to its umbrella
organization, the West America Turkic Council.
