It is an editor's brief statement of the essential features of the measure as introduced. Establishes Oregon Homeless Veterans Coalition in Department of Veterans' Affairs. Directs department to appoint coordinator of coalition and allows department to hire other employees as necessary. A BILL FOR AN ACT Relating to homeless veterans. Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon: SECTION 1. { + (1) There is established the Oregon Homeless Veterans Coalition in the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The coalition shall: (a) Define and publicize the mission of the coalition; (b) Conduct and maintain a census of homeless veterans in this state; (c) Assist homeless veterans in obtaining assistance and benefits and seeking medical treatment through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; (d) Develop a working relationship between the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, state and local agencies and the coalition; (e) Advocate for homeless veterans in this state; and (f) Seek federal and other funding for resources to fight homelessness among veterans; (2) The Department of Veterans' Affairs: (a) Shall appoint, define the duties of and fix the compensation of the coordinator of the coalition. (b) May hire, define the duties of and fix the salary of other employees as necessary to carry out the provisions of this section. + } ----------
