A RESOLUTION

Honoring Second Baptist Church on its One Hundred Seventy-fifth Anniversary.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to commend Second Baptist Church on its One Hundred Seventy-fifth Anniversary; and

       WHEREAS,  Over the years, Second Baptist Church has offered its members the pathway to a more meaningful life by illuminating and demonstrating the precepts on which the church was founded. In 1834, it was voted that local African-American Baptists could establish their own house of worship as a mission of First Baptist Church, resulting in the creation of Second Baptist Church, and it led to the formation of more than ten other area churches; and

       WHEREAS,  Under the capable leadership of the church's pastor, Dr. Howard T. Washington, and all those who served before him, Second Baptist Church has experienced continual growth and has provided a source of moral guidance and spiritual motivation for its congregation. The spirit of love and Christian fellowship that exists among the parishioners not only prevails within the church edifice itself but also extends beyond those sacred walls to touch the lives of everyone encountered by these devout disciples; and

       WHEREAS,  An occasion such as this is an important milestone that represents dedication and commitment. For one hundred seventy-five years, the members of Second Baptist Church have kept their faith alive in the Greater Columbus community, and on this special anniversary, they have accepted the challenge of carrying their beliefs into the future; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Second Baptist Church on its One Hundred Seventy-fifth Anniversary and pay tribute to all those joining in the celebration of this joyous event; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Second Baptist Church.
