A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To urge the Big Ten Conference to maintain the Ohio 1
State-Michigan football game as the final game of 2
the regular season.3


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, Beginning in 1897, The Ohio State University and the 4
University of Michigan football teams have played each other one 5
hundred six times and, since 1934, their game has been an annual 6
November tradition eagerly awaited by players and fans; and7

       WHEREAS, The Ohio State-Michigan game has determined numerous 8
conference and national championships and has produced classic 9
battles such as the Ten-Year War between Woody Hayes and Bo 10
Schembechler, making the game one of the greatest rivalries in all 11
of sports; and12

       WHEREAS, The football rivalry has sparked other rivalries in 13
the week leading up to the annual game, when students from the 14
universities compete in blood drives and food drives to assist 15
their communities; and16

       WHEREAS, The Big Ten Conference's plan to expand to twelve 17
schools in 2011 involves placing the schools in two divisions for 18
athletic competition; and19

       WHEREAS, Spokespersons for the Conference have indicated that 20
while the Ohio State and Michigan football teams will continue to 21
play annually, they may have to play earlier in the regular season 22
due to divisional scheduling; now therefore be it23

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 128th General Assembly 24
of the State of Ohio, urge the Big Ten Conference to keep the Ohio 25
State-Michigan football game as the last game of the regular 26
season in order to preserve the game's storied history and 27
maintain the intensity of a rivalry that benefits students, 28
players, and communities; and be it further29

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly 30
authenticated copies of this resolution to the Commissioner of the 31
Big Ten Conference, the President and Athletic Director of each 32
member university of the Big Ten Conference, and the news media of 33
Ohio.34
