A BILL
To enact section 3301.41 of the Revised Code to 1
require the Department of Education to waive fees 2
for certain Ohio residents taking the GED test.3


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1.  That section 3301.41 of the Revised Code be 4
enacted to read as follows:5

       Sec. 3301.41. (A) As used in this section, "GED test" means 6
the test of general educational development published by the 7
American council on education, as required for issuance of a high 8
school equivalence diploma by the state board of education.9

       (B) The department of education shall waive the application 10
and test fee for the GED test for each applicant who meets the 11
following conditions:12

       (1) The applicant is a resident of the state.13

       (2) The applicant attained on the official practice GED test 14
administered through a public or private nonprofit adult education 15
program at least the score or scores prescribed by rule of the 16
state board for purposes of this section.17

       (3) The applicant's practice GED test scores are certified to 18
the department by the director of a public or private nonprofit 19
adult education program.20

       (C) The state board shall prescribe by rule adopted in 21
accordance with Chapter 119. of the Revised Code a score or scores 22
that an applicant shall attain on the practice GED test for 23
purposes of the fee waiver required under this section.24
