A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the problem of malnutrition and its 1
impact on health outcomes.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       WHEREAS, A significant percentage of hospital patients are 3
malnourished upon admission; and4

       WHEREAS, Leading health and nutrition experts agree that 5
nutrition status is a direct measure of patient health; and 6

       WHEREAS, Good nutrition and good patient health can keep 7
people healthy and out of institutionalized health care 8
facilities, thus reducing health care costs; and9

       WHEREAS, Scientific research demonstrates that good nutrition 10
beginning before birth and extending throughout childhood is 11
critical to healthy growth and development; and12

       WHEREAS, Malnutrition is particularly prevalent in vulnerable 13
populations, such as older adults, hospitalized patients, 14
minorities, the poor, and children; and15

       WHEREAS, Access to nutritious food is critical in restoring 16
and maintaining lean body mass, which improves clinical outcomes, 17
reduces health care costs, and keeps people and their communities 18
healthy; now therefore be it19

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of 20
Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of the State of 21
Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize the complex problem 22
of malnutrition and its impact on health outcomes; and be it 23
further 24

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 25
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 26
Governor and the news media of Ohio.27
