BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO

WHEREAS, The American automotive industry is a critical | 6 |
component of the American economy, directly and indirectly | 7 |
supporting the jobs and way of life of countless people; and | 8 |
WHEREAS, Recognizing the importance of the automotive | 9 |
industry in these troubled economic times, the United States | 10 |
government has loaned billions of dollars to support it, including | 11 |
over $15 billion to the General Motors Corporation alone; and | 12 |
WHEREAS, In conjunction with the loans to the automotive | 13 |
industry, the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry was | 14 |
convened to discuss issues affecting the American auto industry | 15 |
and the need for fundamental restructuring to achieve long-term | 16 |
viability; and | 17 |
WHEREAS, As part of its restructuring, the General Motors | 18 |

in China and importing those vehicles into the United States by | 21 |
2011; and | 22 |
WHEREAS, Long-term viability for the automotive industry | 23 |
cannot be achieved by continually shrinking American manufacturing | 24 |
plants and the American work force; and | 25 |

jobs overseas will have a devastating effect not only on those who | 27 |
work in the automotive industry, but also upon the supporting | 28 |
industries and surrounding communities; and | 29 |
WHEREAS, Use of taxpayer funds to dismantle the working | 30 |
middle class affronts equity and undermines the hope of economic | 31 |
