A BILL
To amend section 4723.485 of the Revised Code to 1
increase the extension period that may be granted 2
to an advanced practice nurse completing an 3
externship in prescribing drugs.4


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1.  That section 4723.485 of the Revised Code be 5
amended to read as follows:6

       Sec.  4723.485.  (A) A(1) Except as provided in division 7
(A)(2) of this section, a certificate to prescribe issued under 8
section 4723.48 of the Revised Code as an externship certificate 9
is valid for not more than one year, unless earlier suspended or 10
revoked by the board of nursing. The11

       (2) An externship certificate may be extended beyond the 12
period for an additional yearwhich it was issued if the holder 13
submits to the board evidence of continued participation in an 14
externship. The extension period shall not exceed two years.15

       (3) If an externship is terminated for any reason, the nurse 16
shall notify the board.17

       (B) To be eligible for a certificate to prescribe after 18
receiving an externship certificate, an applicant shall include 19
with the application submitted under section 4723.48 of the 20
Revised Code all of the following:21

       (1) A statement from a supervising physician attesting to the 22
applicant's successful completion of the externship;23

       (2) The fee required by section 4723.08 of the Revised Code 24
for a certificate to prescribe;25

       (3) Any additional information the board requires pursuant to 26
rules adopted under section 4723.50 of the Revised Code.27

       Section 2.  That existing section 4723.485 of the Revised 28
Code is hereby repealed.29
