BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 3701.136 of the Revised Code be | 3 |
enacted to read as follows: | 4 |
Sec. 3701.136. (A) There is hereby created the sickle cell | 5 |
anemia advisory committee. The committee shall assist the | 6 |
director of health in fulfilling the director's duties under | 7 |
section 3701.131 of the Revised Code. | 8 |
(B) The director shall appoint five members to the committee | 9 |
who are familiar with sickle cell anemia, including researchers, | 10 |
health care professionals, and persons personally affected by | 11 |
sickle cell anemia. | 12 |
Not later than ninety days after the effective date of this | 13 |
section, the director shall make initial appointments to the | 14 |
committee. Of the initial appointments, one shall be for a term | 15 |
ending one year after the effective date of this section, two | 16 |
shall be for terms ending two years after that date, and two shall | 17 |
be for terms ending three years after that date. Thereafter, terms | 18 |
of office shall be three years, with each term ending on the same | 19 |
day of the same month as did the term that it succeeds. Each | 20 |
member shall hold office from the date of appointment until the | 21 |
end of the term for which the member was appointed. Members may be | 22 |
reappointed. | 23 |
Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as original | 24 |
appointments. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring | 25 |
prior to the expiration of the term for which the member's | 26 |
predecessor was appointed shall hold office for the remainder of | 27 |
that term. A member shall continue in office subsequent to the | 28 |
expiration date of the member's term until the member's successor | 29 |
takes office or until a period of sixty days has elapsed, | 30 |
whichever occurs first. | 31 |
Members of the committee shall serve without compensation, | 32 |
but may be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred | 33 |
in the performance of their duties. | 34 |
(C) The committee shall annually select from among its | 35 |
members a chairperson. The committee shall meet at the call of the | 36 |
chairperson, but not less than twice each year. A majority of the | 37 |
members of the committee constitutes a quorum. | 38 |
