        Introduced  by  Sen.  BROUK  -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education

        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to developing  guidelines
          to  encouraging participation in apprenticeships and raising awareness
          in apprenticeship opportunities

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 62 to read as follows:
     3    62.  The  commissioner  shall,  in consultation with the department of
     4  labor and pupil personnel advocates, develop guidelines for use by  high
     5  school  counselors  and  guidance counselors to coordinate services with
     6  local  representatives  of  New  York  state  certified   apprenticeship
     7  programs  for  purposes  of encouraging participation in apprenticeships
     8  and raising awareness  surrounding  apprenticeship  opportunities.  Such
     9  guidelines shall be made available on the department's website and shall
    10  be updated annually.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
