        Introduced  by Sen. HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern-
          ment Operations

        AN ACT to amend the public officers law,  in  relation  to  waiving  the
          residency requirement for appointed public officers employed by Putnam
          county

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 75 to read as follows:
     3    75. In respect to public  officers  employed  by  Putnam  county,  the
     4  provisions  of  this  section requiring a person to be a resident of the
     5  political subdivision or municipal corporation of the  state  for  which
     6  such person shall be chosen or within which their official functions are
     7  required  to  be  exercised  shall not prevent a person from holding any
     8  appointed public office, provided that such person resides in the  state
     9  of New York.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
