          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation -- reported
          favorably from said committee, ordered to  first  report,  amended  on

          retaining its place in the order of second report -- reported  favora-
          bly  from said committee, amended on second report, ordered to a third
          reading, amended and ordered reprinted, retaining  its  place  in  the
          order of third reading

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
          the state highway system as the "Port Authority Police Officer William
          J. Leahy Memorial Bridge"

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-p to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-p. Portion of the state highway system to be designated  as  the
     4  "Port  Authority  Police  Officer William J. Leahy Memorial Bridge". All
     5  that portion of the state highway system constituting the bridge on  the
     6  South  Service Road, between Federal Circle and the Perimeter Road Over-
     7  pass, crossing over the Van  Wyck  Expressway  in  the  neighborhood  of
     8  Jamaica,  county  of  Queens, shall be designated and known as the "Port
     9  Authority Police Officer William J. Leahy Memorial Bridge".
    10    § 2. The commissioner of  transportation,  in  consultation  with  the
    11  executive  director  of  the  port authority of New York and New Jersey,
    12  shall provide for the installation and maintenance of  adequate  signing
    13  of  the  state  highway  system as designated pursuant to section one of
    14  this act.  However,  to  avoid  confusion  and  to  limit  any  possible
    15  disruption  of  commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section
    16  one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official  name
    17  of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
    18    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
