       Introduced  by  Sen.  O'MARA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes
       AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to the possession and use  of
         pistols  and  revolvers  by students of a higher education institution
         participating in a course in gun safety
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Subdivision a of section 265.20 of the penal law is amended
    2  by adding a new paragraph 12-a to read as follows:
    3    12-A.  POSSESSION  AND  USE  OF  A PISTOL OR REVOLVER, AT AN INDOOR OR
    4  OUTDOOR SHOOTING RANGE, BY A REGISTERED STUDENT OF  A  HIGHER  EDUCATION
    5  INSTITUTION  CHARTERED BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK, WHO IS PARTICIPATING IN
    6  A COURSE IN GUN SAFETY AND  PROFICIENCY  OFFERED  BY  SUCH  INSTITUTION,
    7  UNDER  THE  IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION, GUIDANCE, AND INSTRUCTION OF A PERSON
    8  SPECIFIED IN PARAGRAPH SEVEN OF THIS SUBDIVISION.
    9    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
