       Introduced  by  Sen.  GOLDEN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Mental Health and Develop-
         mental Disabilities
       AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to duties of provid-
         ers of service to people with developmental disabilities
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  Section  31.11  of  the  mental hygiene law is amended by
    2  adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows:
    3    6. FOR PROGRAMS LICENSED, CERTIFIED, OPERATED, AUTHORIZED OR FUNDED BY
    4  THE OFFICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, POSTING A VISIBLE
    5  NOTICE IN A PUBLIC AREA VISIBLE TO EMPLOYEES INFORMING SUCH EMPLOYEES TO
    6  CALL 911 IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. FURTHER, THE NOTICE SHALL  INFORM
    7  EMPLOYEES  THAT,  PURSUANT TO ARTICLE ELEVEN OF THE SOCIAL SERVICES LAW,
    8  THEY SHALL REPORT TO THE JUSTICE CENTER FOR  THE  PROTECTION  OF  PEOPLE
    9  WITH  SPECIAL NEEDS IF IT IS BELIEVED THAT ABUSE OR NEGLECT OF A SERVICE
   10  RECIPIENT HAS OCCURRED;  AND  MAY  CONTACT  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  IF  IT  IS
   11  BELIEVED  THAT  SUCH  ABUSE  OR NEGLECT CONSTITUTES A CRIME. SUCH NOTICE
   12  SHALL CONTAIN THE PHONE NUMBER OF THE JUSTICE CENTER HOTLINE  AND  LOCAL
   13  LAW ENFORCEMENT ENTITY.
   14    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
