          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the display-
          ing of a bus driver's credentials while he or she is on duty  and  the
          review of his or her files
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivisions 3 and 4 of section 509-b of  the  vehicle  and
     2  traffic  law,  as  added by chapter 675 of the laws of 1985, are amended
     3  and a new subdivision 5 is added to read as follows:
     4    (3) has passed the bus driver physical examination administered pursu-
     5  ant to regulations established by the commissioner; [and]
     6    (4) is not disqualified to drive a motor vehicle pursuant  to  section
     7  five hundred nine-c or any other provision of this article[.]; and
     8    (5)  displays  prominently,  in  the front of the bus, the credentials
     9  issued by the department as required in  subdivision  eight  of  section
    10  five  hundred  nine-m  of this article as proof of his or her qualifica-
    11  tions while he or she is on duty.
    12    § 2. Subdivision 1 of section 509-m of the vehicle and traffic law, as
    13  added by chapter 675 of the laws of 1985, is amended and a new  subdivi-
    14  sion 8 is added to read as follows:
    15    1.  At  least once [every three years] annually, review the bus driver
    16  files of each motor carrier, provided, however,  that  the  commissioner
    17  may  review  such  bus  driver files at his discretion at any other time
    18  during regular business hours.
    19    8. Issue new credentials, designed for  public  display,  which  shall
    20  serve as proof that a bus driver is qualified under section five hundred
    21  nine-b of this article. Such credentials shall be re-issued annually.
    22    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
