        AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to the  calculation
          of  the shelter allowance for persons and families residing in housing
          subsidized under section 8 of the United States housing act of 1937
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  Subdivision 2 of section 131-a of the social services law
     2  is amended by adding a new paragraph (c-1) to read as follows:
     3    (c-1) Notwithstanding the provisions of this chapter or of  any  other
     4  law or regulation to the contrary, the shelter allowance for a person or
     5  family  receiving  federal  low-income  housing  assistance  pursuant to
     6  section 8 of the United States housing act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. §  1437f),
     7  as  amended,  shall be the maximum shelter allowance prescribed by regu-
     8  lations of the department.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2018.
