Bill Title: Expands the purposes of the Putnam Lake Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association to be to promote friendly association for the betterment of the members of the corporation; to promote relations between the members of the corporation and the local community; to provide relief, aid and assistance to those members and their families who by reason of age, ill-health, injury, disability or financial hardship or vulnerability are deemed worthy of such assistance; to provide for the health and safety of the members of the corporation; to maintain suitable headquarters for the members of the corporation; to acquire real and personal property such as may be necessary for the purposes set forth in this clause; to study and disseminate among the members of the corporation the most efficient manner of fighting fires; and to promote the volunteer fire service within the territory now served or which may hereafter be served by the Putnam Lake Fire Department, Inc.

        Introduced  by Sen. HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government

        AN ACT to amend chapter 576 of the laws of 1977 incorporating the Putnam
          Lake Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association and providing for  its
          powers  and  duties,  in  relation  to the purposes of the Putnam Lake
          Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent  Association;  and  to  repeal  certain
          provisions of such law relating thereto

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 3 of chapter 576 of the laws of 1977  incorporating
     2  the Putnam Lake Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association and providing
     3  for  its  powers and duties, is REPEALED and a new section 3 is added to
     4  read as follows:
     5    § 3. Purposes. The purposes of such corporation shall  be  to  (a)  to
     6  promote  friendly  association  for the betterment of the members of the
     7  corporation; (b) to promote relations between the members of the  corpo-
     8  ration  and  the local community; (c) to provide relief, aid and assist-
     9  ance to those members and their families who  by  reason  of  age,  ill-
    10  health,  injury,  disability  or financial hardship or vulnerability are
    11  deemed worthy of such assistance; (d) to  provide  for  the  health  and
    12  safety of the members of the corporation; (e) to maintain suitable head-
    13  quarters  for  the  members  of the corporation; (f) to acquire real and
    14  personal property such as may be necessary for the purposes set forth in
    15  this section; (g) to study and disseminate  among  the  members  of  the
    16  corporation  the  most  efficient  manner  of fighting fires; and (h) to
    17  promote the volunteer fire service within the territory  now  served  or
    18  which may hereafter be served by the Putnam Lake Fire Department, Inc.
    19    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
