       Introduced  by  Sen.  GRIFFO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Aging
       AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to requiring  adult
         protective  services  to  consult  with the local area agency on aging
         when the individual requiring services is sixty years of age or older
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 2 of section 473 of the social
    2  services  law,  as  added  by  chapter  446 of the laws of 1979 and such
    3  section as renumbered by chapter 991 of the laws of 1981, is amended  to
    4  read as follows:
    5    (a)  (1)  In  that  the  effective delivery of protective services for
    6  adults requires a  network  of  professional  consultants  and  services
    7  providers, local social services districts shall plan with other public,
    8  private  and  voluntary  agencies  including  but not limited to health,
    9  mental health, aging,  legal  and  law  enforcement  agencies,  for  the
   10  purpose  of assuring maximum local understanding, coordination and coop-
   11  erative action in the provision of appropriate services.
   12    (2) IN ACCORDANCE WITH SUBPARAGRAPH ONE OF THIS  PARAGRAPH,  WHEN  THE
   13  INDIVIDUAL  TO  BE SERVED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION IS SIXTY YEARS OF AGE
   14  OR OLDER, THE LOCAL AREA AGENCY ON AGING, EXCEPT IN A CITY WITH A  POPU-
   15  LATION  OF  ONE  MILLION  OR  MORE,  SHALL  BE INFORMED AND CONSULTED ON
   16  PROGRAMS AND SERVICES AVAILABLE TO HELP SERVE THE INDIVIDUAL.
   17    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
