LITTLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health -- recommitted to the Committee on Health in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee -- reported favorably from said commit- tee and committed to the Committee on Insurance -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to directing the New York state health care quality and cost containment commission to study and report upon the impact of requiring that certain health insurance plans provide coverage for treatment of mitochondrial disease The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 213 of the insurance law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision (e) to read as follows: 3 (e) The commission shall cause a study to be performed on the impact 4 of requiring certain health insurance plans to provide coverage for 5 treatment of mitochondrial disease. Such study shall include an assess- 6 ment of the impact of such a requirement on costs to providers, the cost 7 of insurance premiums, and the fiscal impact to the state. The commis- 8 sion shall submit a report of the findings, conclusions and recommenda- 9 tion of such study, on or before November thirtieth, two thousand seven- 10 teen, to the governor, the temporary president of the senate, the 11 speaker of the assembly, the chairs of the senate and assembly insurance 12 committees, and the chairs of the senate and assembly health committees. 13 § 2.
