        Introduced  by  Sen.  GOLDEN  --  (at request of the Department of Civil
          Service) -- read twice and ordered printed, and  when  printed  to  be
          committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions
        AN  ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to interdepartmental
          promotion lists
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  Subdivision  4 of section 52 of the civil service law, as
     2  added by chapter 790 of the laws of 1958, is amended to read as follows:
     3    4. Departmental and interdepartmental promotion lists. The state civil
     4  service department and municipal commissions may establish  interdepart-
     5  mental  promotion  lists  which  shall  not be certified to a department
     6  until after the promotion eligible list for  that  department  has  been
     7  exhausted,  except that upon the written request of the appointing offi-
     8  cer stating the reasons therefor, the state civil service department may
     9  certify an interdepartmental promotion eligible list and a  departmental
    10  promotion eligible list without preference to the departmental promotion
    11  eligible list.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
