       AN  ACT  to  amend  the environmental conservation law, in relation to a
         registry of preliminary sites under investigation for hazardous  waste
         disposal on the department of environmental conservation's website
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 27-1301 of the environmental  conservation  law  is
    2  amended by adding a new subdivision 8 to read as follows:
    3    8. "AREA OF CONCERN" MEANS ANY LOCATION WHERE THE DEPARTMENT IS INVES-
    4  TIGATING A THREAT TO THE ENVIRONMENT RELATED TO HAZARDOUS WASTE THAT WAS
    5  KNOWN  OR  HAS BEEN DISCHARGED, GENERATED, MANUFACTURED, REFINED, TRANS-
    6  PORTED, STORED, HANDLED, TREATED OR DISPOSED, OR WHERE  HAZARDOUS  WASTE
    7  MAY HAVE MIGRATED.
    8    S  2.  The  environmental  conservation law is amended by adding a new
    9  section 27-1325 to read as follows:
   10  S 27-1325. AREAS OF CONCERN.
   11    THE DEPARTMENT SHALL MAINTAIN AND MAKE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION
   12  AT EACH OF ITS REGIONAL OFFICES AND REGIONAL  SUB-OFFICES,  AND  ON  ITS
   13  WEBSITE,  A  LIST OF ALL AREAS OF CONCERN. IN ADDITION, FOR EACH AREA OF
        EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
                             [ ] is old law to be omitted.

    1  CONCERN THE REGISTRY SHALL INCLUDE INFORMATION REGARDING THE  BASIS  FOR
    2  INCLUSION OF EACH SITE.
    3    S  3. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
    4  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
