       Introduced  by  Sen.  GOLDEN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Housing, Construction  and
         Community Development
       AN  ACT  to  amend  the  administrative code of the city of New York, in
         relation to requiring operational smoke detecting devices in one fami-
         ly and two family dwellings
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  Section  27-979 of the administrative code of the city of
    2  New York is amended by adding a new subdivision (c) to read as follows:
    3    (C) OWNERS OF DWELLING UNITS IN BUILDINGS WITHIN OCCUPANCY  GROUP  J-3
    4  BUILT  BEFORE  JANUARY  FIRST, NINETEEN HUNDRED EIGHTY-TWO SHALL PROVIDE
    5  PROOF OF PURCHASE OF APPROVED AND OPERATIONAL SMOKE DETECTING DEVICES TO
    6  THE COMMISSIONER. SUCH PROOF MAY INCLUDE MAILING RECEIPT OF PURCHASE  TO
    7  THE  COMMISSIONER  WITH PURCHASER'S NAME, PLACE OF RESIDENCE, ADDRESS OF
    8  THE DWELLING FOR WHICH SUCH DEVICE OR DEVICES WERE  PURCHASED,  AND  ANY
    9  OTHER  INFORMATION  AS  THE  COMMISSIONER  MAY,  BY  RULE OR REGULATION,
   10  REQUIRE.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
   12  it shall have become a law.
