Legislative intent: The legislature recognizes the contrib- 2 utions of Willie Mae Goodman, a mother and tireless advocate who has 3 devoted her life to ensure that people with developmental disabilities 4 can have "full" lives in the community. Since, 1961, Ms. Goodman's 5 daughter has been under the care of the state department of mental 6 hygiene, first at the Willowbrook State school in Staten Island and then 7 at Gouverneur Hospital in lower Manhattan. Ms. Goodman continues to advocate for people with disa- 15 bilities as part of the Gouverneur Parents Association. In honor of her 16 tireless work for the developmentally disabled community, the 119th 17 street facilities will bear her name. 18 § 2.
