STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 2972 2019-2020 Regular Sessions IN SENATE January 31, 2019 ___________ Introduced by Sens. GRIFFO, HELMING, RITCHIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Trans- portation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to keepsake plates for gold star mothers The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 404-i of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 4 to read as follows: 3 4. Upon the surrender of a set of distinctive plates issued pursuant 4 to subdivision one of this section, the gold star mother to whom such 5 plates were issued shall be entitled to be issued a keepsake plate for 6 commemorative purposes only and not for display on any motor vehicle. In 7 the event that a gold star mother to whom distinctive plates were issued 8 pursuant to subdivision one of this section has surrendered both plates 9 of the set of such distinctive plates, then the commissioner shall, upon 10 request of, and at no cost to such gold star mother, issue and provide 11 to such gold star mother one keepsake plate. Keepsake plates are for 12 commemorative purposes only and not for display on any motor vehicle and 13 as such shall differ in size from and cannot be mistaken for the 14 distinctive plates issued pursuant to this section. 15 § 2.
