Introduced by Sen. SMITH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
printed to be committed to the Committee on Health
AN ACT to authorize certain health care professionals licensed to prac-
tice in other jurisdictions to practice in this state in connection
with an event sanctioned by Remote Area Medical; and providing for the
repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any inconsistent provision of law, any
2 person who is licensed to practice as a physician, physician's assist-
3 ant, massage therapist, physical therapist, chiropractor, dentist, opto-
4 metrist, nurse, nurse practitioner or podiatrist in another state or
5 territory, who is in good standing in such state or territory and who
6 has been appointed by Remote Area Medical to provide professional
7 services at an event in this state sanctioned by Remote Area Medical,
8 may provide such professional services at a Remote Area Medical Clinic
9 in New York City without first being licensed pursuant to the provisions
10 of title 8 of the education law. Such services shall be provided only
11 during the time period of December 1 through December 31, 2014.
12 S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be
13 deemed repealed December 31, 2014.
