       AN  ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to required instal-
         lation of carbon monoxide detectors
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  The public housing law is amended by adding a new section
    2  152-a to read as follows:
    3    S 152-A. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS; CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS. EACH AUTHORI-
    4  TY SHALL INSTALL AND MAINTAIN A FUNCTIONING CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR  IN
    5  EVERY  TENANT DWELLING UNIT, EXCLUDING THOSE DWELLING UNITS HAVING ELEC-
    6  TRIC HEAT AS THEIR SOLE SOURCE OF HEAT.
    7    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of October next  succeed-
    8  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
