        MEMORIALIZING  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim
        September  2022,  as   Polycystic   Ovary   Syndrome
        Awareness Month in the State of New York

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  custom  of this Legislative Body to recognize
official months that are set aside  to  increase  awareness  of  serious
conditions that affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
memorialize  Governor  Kathy  Hochul  to  proclaim  September  2022,  as
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month in the State of New  York,  in
conjunction  with the observance of National Polycystic Awareness Month;
and

  WHEREAS, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)  is  a  hormonal  disorder
common  among  women of reproductive age; according to WomensHealth.gov,
10% of women of childbearing age suffer from PCOS; and

  WHEREAS, PCOS is one of the  most  underdiagnosed  diseases  in  the
world,  with  less than 25% of women with the condition being diagnosed;
and

  WHEREAS, Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged  menstrual
periods  or  excess  male hormone (androgen) levels, and the ovaries may
develop numerous small collections of  fluid  (follicles)  and  fail  to
regularly release eggs; and

  WHEREAS,  The  exact  cause of PCOS is unknown, however factors that
might play a  role  include:  excess  insulin,  low-grade  inflammation,
heredity, and excess androgen; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  imperative that there be greater awareness of this
serious health condition, and more must be done to increase activity  at
local, State and National levels; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize  Governor  Kathy  Hochul  to  proclaim  September  2022,  as
Polycystic  Ovary  Syndrome Awareness Month, and to urge the citizens of
this great Empire State to learn about the causes,  symptoms,  diagnoses
and treatments for this condition; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of  New
York.
