Senate Resolution No. 3354

        COMMEMORATING  the  70th  Anniversary  of  AmeriCU
        Credit Union, Rome, New York

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that  the  quality
and  character  of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched
by the faithful  efforts  of  those  financial  institutions  and  their
leadership  who  devote their purpose to promoting economic vitality and
service the public need; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of  AmeriCU  Credit  Union,  Rome,  New
York; and

  WHEREAS,  In  honor  of  this  remarkable  milestone, AmeriCU Credit
Union's employees turned back  time  with  a  1950s  style  celebration;
members  enjoyed  classic  1950s  giveaways such as yoyos, gumballs, and
sock-hop themed magnets; and

  WHEREAS, AmeriCU Credit Union began in 1950,  when  a  few  civilian
employees  of  Griffiss  Air Force Base threw less than 100 dollars on a
table and formed the previously named Griffiss Employees  Credit  Union;
and

  WHEREAS,  Since  those  humble  beginnings, AmeriCU Credit Union has
grown to be among the top credit unions in  the  country,  serving  more
than 140,000 members and growing to a multi-billion-dollar company; and

  WHEREAS,   Although   this  extraordinary  credit  union  has  grown
tremendously, AmeriCU has stayed true to its roots as a community-based,
not-for-profit financial cooperative; and

  WHEREAS,  The  success  of  AmeriCU  Credit  Union  is   in   direct
correlation  to the efforts of its President and CEO, Ron Belle, who has
been a long time member of  the  credit  union,  and  his  staff,  whose
involvement  is,  and  always  has  been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising  standard  of
excellence  in all endeavors on behalf of this vital institution and the
community it serves; and

  WHEREAS, It is  the  custom  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
institutions  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of  AmeriCU  Credit  Union,  Rome,  New
York,  and  to  wish this financial institution continued success in its
vital work on behalf of its customers; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Ron Belle, President and CEO, AmeriCU Credit Union.
