        COMMEMORATING  the 50th Anniversary of the Capital
        District Transportation Authority on August 1, 2020

  WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative  Body  to  memorialize
the long and distinguished histories of enduring modes of transportation
in this great Empire State; and

  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body is justly proud to commemorate the
50th Anniversary of the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA)
to be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2020; and

  WHEREAS, The Capital District Transportation  Authority  (CDTA)  was
created  in  1970  by the New York State Legislature as a public benefit
corporation to provide regional transportation services  by  rail,  bus,
water and air; and

  WHEREAS, Today, CDTA is the premier mobility provider in the Capital
Region,  delivering  regular  route  bus  service,  shuttle  systems and
paratransit services; in addition, its subsidiaries own and operate  the
Rensselaer  Rail  and  Saratoga Springs Train Stations, and operates the
Northway (NX)  Xpress  Commuter  Service  between  Saratoga  County  and
downtown Albany; and

  WHEREAS,  Currently, CDTA employs 640 people who take great pride in
delivering a transit system which serves more than  800,000  people  who
live  and  work  in  the region, transporting more than 55,000 customers
each weekday; and

  WHEREAS, CDTA's ridership has been at record or near record  levels,
reaching  a  high  of  17.1  million  riders in one fiscal year and a 25
percent increase in ridership over the past six years; and

  WHEREAS, Since its inception, CDTA has stayed true to its mission of
creating and sustaining safe and  efficient  transportation  connections
and supporting the region's economic growth; and

  WHEREAS,  Under  the  luminous leadership of its CEO Carm Basile and
Board of Directors, CDTA is  continually  making  improvements  such  as
offering  a  safe environment for the community and connecting towns and
cities which have been previously challenging to connect with a cohesive
transportation network in order to ensure community members  can  expand
their horizons; and

  WHEREAS, Recently, CDTA has focused on improving taxi services, bike
share  services,  deals  with  major  employers, new transit centers and
creating universal access programs, which represented 25 percent of  all
CDTA boardings in the system; and

  WHEREAS,  For  its  steadfast  and  unremitting  commitment  to  its
community,  CDTA  was  proudly  named  the  2017  Best  Mid-Size  Public
Transportation   System   in   North  America  by  the  American  Public
Transportation Association (APTA); and

  WHEREAS, It is the custom  of  this  Legislative  Body  to  publicly
recognize  and  honor milestones in the history of public transportation
in the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Capital District  Transportation
Authority on August 1, 2020; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted  to  Carm  Basile,  CEO,  Capital  District   Transportation
Authority.
