Senate Resolution No. 3201 BY: Senator HARCKHAM MOURNING the death of Joseph J. Angi, Sr., distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. of Mount Kisco and Somers, New York died on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the age of 95, due to complications related to the novel coronavirus; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. lived a very full life and may be best known as one of the proprietors of Pines Bridge Lodge in Yorktown, and the owner, along with his wife, Rosemarie, of the Fife and Drum Restaurant in Mount Kisco; and WHEREAS, During his time at the Pines Bridge Lodge, he was affectionately known as Big Joe; in his years at the Fife and Drum Restaurant, he was known as Papa Joe; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. was born in 1924 to Antonio and Maria Angi at the Mount Kisco Hospital, as it was known at the time; he attended and graduated from Mount Kisco High School on West Hyatt Avenue before it became Mount Kisco Elementary School; and WHEREAS, During his high school years, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. worked with his father and uncles at the Angi Brothers Market; he told many stories about the fresh meat and vegetable bus his uncles owned which would make rounds through the village to sell to people in their neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. enlisted in the United States Army, 8th Armored Division; he completed basic training in Louisiana and eventually served in Belgium, France and Germany during World War II; and WHEREAS, His stories about commissioning items for his troop by bartering, and in some cases borrowing under cover of darkness, were the topic of many pleasant hours; and WHEREAS, In 1948, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. married his beloved wife, Rosemarie at St. Mary's Church in Port Chester; they celebrated 72 years of marriage earlier this month; when asked the secret to a long and happy marriage he would reply he always said "Yes, dear"; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr.'s commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. was a past member of the Mount Kisco Fire Police and a member of the American Legion Moses Taylor Post 136 Mount Kisco for over 50 years; in addition, he was a member of and also served as an usher at St. Francis of Assisi Church for many years; and WHEREAS, In retirement, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. and his wife enjoyed time with their grandchildren and spending time with family and friends in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey at their summer home; they wintered in Gulfport, Florida, where they had many friends; and WHEREAS, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie; and their four children, Anthony Angi, Barbara (Richard) John, Jim Angi, Joseph (Lori) Angi, Jr.; as well as 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Joseph J. Angi, Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Joseph J. Angi, Sr., and to express its deepest condolences to the family; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Joseph J. Angi, Sr.
