Senate Resolution No. 2896 BY: Senator HINCHEY COMMENDING Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, nobly risking their own lives to preserve the life of another; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and WHEREAS, On the evening of Sunday, August 7, 2022, Peter Liquari III and his three sons were traveling home from South Westerlo when they came across a car accident that had just occurred; one car was engulfed in flames with the driver pinned inside and no sign of first responder vehicles at that point; and WHEREAS, Peter Liquari III sprung into action at the scene, pulling a garden hose from a house nearby, hoping to help put out the fire; in realizing the hose was not long enough, he grabbed four buckets to fill, and that is when his three children, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari left the safety of their car to help extinguish the fire; and WHEREAS, Their swift action in forming a "bucket brigade" was paramount to stopping the fire from spreading into the driver's compartment; Greenville Fire Chief Kip Drollette noted that "if they did not throw water on the car, the driver would not have made it"; and WHEREAS, Clifton Powell, Jr., Chairman of the Greenville Fire District Board of Commissioners, stated that he cannot recall a time locally when civilians as young as the Liquari brothers saved someone's life; and WHEREAS, Justly recognized as heroes, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari richly merit the admiration of this Legislative Body and their community for their consummate, swift action in saving the life of a driver; and WHEREAS, Moreover, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari should be meritoriously commended for remaining calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage while performing a lifesaving deed; and WHEREAS, Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari, in their spontaneous and heroic acts, have so aptly demonstrated their character and compassion for the welfare of others, personifying, by virtue of their action, the collective concern of ordinary citizens across the community of New York State who voluntarily respond without thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Peter Liquari IV, Nicholas Liquari, and Dylan Liquari.
