Senate Resolution No. 2667 BY: Senator MAYER LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elizabeth Saenger upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Social Justice Recognition Award by the Larchmont Mamaroneck Human Rights Committee on January 12, 2020 WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elizabeth Saenger upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Social Justice Recognition Award by the Larchmont Mamaroneck Human Rights Committee which was celebrated at its 33rd Annual MLK Day Commemoration on Sunday, January 12, 2020, in Mamaroneck, New York; and WHEREAS, In 1973, Elizabeth Saenger began her long and distinguished career in education as a social studies teacher at Hommocks Middle School; from 1983-2007, she taught ethics at the Ethical Culture Fieldston Lower School; and WHEREAS, As a young teacher, Elizabeth Saenger helped the late Judge Joseph Clifford create the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester; located in Mount Vernon, New York, this homelike 12-bed facility offers defendants between the ages of 16 and 21 a safe place to wait for disposition of their cases; and WHEREAS, Elizabeth Saenger has always been available to lend a helping hand and has tirelessly supported her community and its leaders; a true source for good, she has been the recipient of proclamations from the Villages of Mamaroneck and Larchmont, the Town of Mamaroneck, and the Westchester County Board of Legislators; and WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Youth Shelter, Elizabeth Saenger served on the boards of The Washingtonville Housing Alliance in Mamaroneck, The Local Summit, and the Community Resource Center where she teaches English to recent immigrants; she is also a long-time member of Westchester for Change which works for progressive social and political change; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Elizabeth Saenger upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Social Justice Recognition Award by the Larchmont Mamaroneck Human Rights Committee on January 12, 2020; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Elizabeth Saenger.
