Senate Resolution No. 1426 BY: Senator TEDISCO COMMENDING Colonel Christine T. Rem upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Colonel Christine T. Rem upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate, to be celebrated on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge No. 161, Saratoga Springs, New York; and WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and WHEREAS, Colonel Christine T. Rem, a retired member of the United States Army Nurse Corps, proudly served her country for 30 years in the Active Army and US Army Reserves; and WHEREAS, Christine T. Rem began her illustrious military career as a Commissioned First Lieutenant with the United States Army Nurse Corps on February 19, 1982, and served much of her time in the US Army Reserve Hospitals within the Albany, New York area; she served two one-year Active-Duty Tours in the Wurzburg Army Hospital, Wurzburg, Germany, and from 2007-2008, she was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, while serving her country, this extraordinary woman also earned her Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Sage College; she retired in March of 2012; and WHEREAS, In addition to the Bronze Star Medal, Colonel Christine T. Rem was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (4 Awards), Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War On Terror Service Medal; and WHEREAS, After retiring from the Army, Christine T. Rem continued to pursue her dream of using her family home for women veterans and children in need; in June of 2021, she founded the Capital District Women Veterans (CDWV) Program, a nonprofit organization centered on supportive housing and case management services to women veterans; and WHEREAS, In December of 2015, Christine T. Rem donated a property in the memory of her husband, Major Christopher Rem, to CDWV as their first service location named "Christopher House," where she continues to serve as a Volunteer Case Manager developing and implementing the policies and procedures for this vital organization's growth; and WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her community, Christine T. Rem works tirelessly every day to enhance the lives of local veterans, as well as their families and caretakers; she also serves as the Chaplain for DAV Chapter 38 in Troy, New York, and is an active member of the Saratoga County Peer to Peer Program, VFW of Clifton Park, the Tri County Vietnam Veterans, and the American Legion Zaloga Post No. 1520, Albany; and WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their lives for their beloved Nation; and WHEREAS, Having exhibited her patriotism both at home and abroad, Colonel Christine T. Rem demonstrated her love for her country and merits forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend Colonel Christine T. Rem upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Colonel Christine T. Rem.
