        MOURNING  the  death  of Denise M. Nopper, beloved
        educator, distinguished citizen and  devoted  member
        of her community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life  in  their  communities  and  this
great Empire State; and

  WHEREAS,  Denise  M.  Nopper of Brooklyn, New York, died on Tuesday,
December 21, 2021, at the age of 64; and

  WHEREAS, Denise Mary Shannon was born on May 1, 1957, to Frances and
the late Thomas Shannon; from a young age, she knew she wanted to  be  a
teacher,  and  throughout her 30 years of working in education, she made
incomparable contributions to empowering and improving the well-being of
the students of the borough of Brooklyn; after many years  of  teaching,
she assumed the role of Principal of P.S. 119; and

  WHEREAS,  As a knowledgeable and highly skilled Principal, Denise M.
Nopper diligently worked to improve the quality of education at P.S. 119
by leading and supporting staff with enthusiasm, cultivating a  positive
and stimulating school environment for all of her students, and creating
a greater sense of community; and

  WHEREAS,  Throughout  her  esteemed  career,  Denise  M.  Nopper was
devoted to helping others succeed; she provided a tremendous service  to
the  future  of  our  State  and  Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and

  WHEREAS, Predeceased by her father, Thomas Shannon, Denise M. Nopper
is survived by her mother, Frances Shannon; two sons,  Andrew  (Michele)
and  Charles  (Pauline);  two daughters, Kimberly (Patrick) Palmese and,
Kristin (Michael) Velasco; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and  Patrick;  two
brothers,  Thomas  (Margaret)  and  James (Eileen); one sister, Kathleen
(Vincent); numerous other family members, and many  friends,  co-workers
and  students  who will long cherish her zest for life, deep compassion,
and warm smile; and

  WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a  sense  of
compassion,  Denise  M.  Nopper  leaves  behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of  Denise  M.  Nopper  and  to  express  its deepest
condolences to her family; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Denise M. Nopper.
