Senate Resolution No. 1412

        COMMENDING    Frederick    Warren    Crosby    Jr.
        posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as
        recipient of a  Liberty  Medal,  the  highest  honor
        bestowed  upon  an  individual by the New York State
        Senate

  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Frederick
Warren Crosby Jr. posthumously upon the occasion of his  designation  as
recipient  of  a  Liberty  Medal,  the  highest  honor  bestowed upon an
individual by the New  York  State  Senate,  to  be  celebrated  at  the
Columbia County Honor a Veteran Ceremony on Monday, June 12, 2023; and

  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

  WHEREAS, Frederick Warren  Crosby  Jr.  entered  the  U.S.  Army  in
Albany,  New  York on November 27, 1963, as a private at 17; after basic
training from February 1964 to April 1964, he received advanced training
at Fort Leonard Wood as a tractor scraper machine operator; and

  WHEREAS, Specialist Fourth Class Frederick  Warren  Crosby  Jr.  was
assigned  to  Southeast  Asia  and for the next year he was stationed in
Thailand as a bulldozer  operator;  Specialist  Fourth  Class  Frederick
Warren  Crosby  Jr.    returned to the states and served with the Co. A,
16th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas; and

  WHEREAS, For his courageous service, Frederick Warren Crosby Jr. was
awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense  Service  Medal;
and

  WHEREAS,  Frederick Warren Crosby Jr. completed his military service
on November 25, 1966; and

  WHEREAS, Frederick Warren Crosby Jr.  returned  to  Columbia  County
where  he  met and married Polly Negrini on November 3, 1979, and raised
two children, Luke and Amanda; he owned and operated multiple businesses
in New York and Western Massachusetts; and

  WHEREAS,  His  hobbies  included  fishing,  hunting,  and  trapping,
spending time in the Adirondacks, attending St. Patrick's Church in West
Stockbridge, and was a member of the Canaan Conservation Club; and

  WHEREAS, Fredrick Warren Crosby Jr. died on Monday, June 6, 2020, at
the  age  of  73;  he  left  behind his wife, his two children, and four
grandchildren; and

  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
that  no  greater  debt  is  owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to  be  missing
in action; and

  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Frederick Warren Crosby Jr. demonstrated his love for  his  country  and
merits forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS,  Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication  to  their  communities,  their  State,  and  their
Nation; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Frederick Warren Crosby Jr. posthumously upon  the  occasion  of
his  designation  as  recipient  of  a  Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York  State  Senate;  and  be  it
further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Frederick Warren Crosby Jr.
