Senate Resolution No. 1375 BY: Senator BROOKS COMMEMORATING the 244th Birthday of the United States Army WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend members of the United States Army, who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have served in times of peace; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 244th Birthday of the United States Army on Friday, June 14, 2019; and WHEREAS, The Continental Army was created on June 14, 1775, by Resolution of the Second Continental Congress as a unified army for the colonies to fight Great Britain, with George Washington appointed as its commander; after the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on June 3, 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army; and WHEREAS, Through their superb skills in carrying out land warfare operations, the officers and enlisted men and women of the United States Army have earned the respect and gratitude of all Americans; and WHEREAS, Just as our country has established for itself a position of world leadership, the members of the United States Army have proven themselves to be dedicated professionals, willing to defend lives and protect the rights of our citizens and our Nation; and WHEREAS, Soldiers have fought in every American armed conflict since the Revolutionary War; and WHEREAS, A United States Army Soldier is trained to hold his ground against any odds and to ever stand ready to fight anytime, anywhere the President or Congress may designate; currently, the Army has more than 1,000,000 active, guard and reserve troops; and WHEREAS, The term soldier has fittingly been associated with Army Values such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; the Army's motto "This We'll Defend" has long been associated with loyalty and dedication; and WHEREAS, The people of the State of New York are proud of the United States Army's rich heritage and unwavering dedication to our country; and WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing in action; and WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad, these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and WHEREAS, Our Nation's soldiers deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 244th Birthday of the United States Army on June 14, 2019; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the United States Army.
