Senate Resolution No. 1357 BY: Senator FERNANDEZ MOURNING the death of Sandra Pabon, district leader, distinguished citizen, and devoted member of her community WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved this day to announce the passing of Sandra Pabon of Bronx County, who died on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 61; and WHEREAS, Sandra Pabon was a proud first-generation Puerto Rican-American and lifelong Bronxite who represented the best her culture has to offer; and WHEREAS, Sandra Pabon served as a state committeewoman, district leader, substance use disorder counselor, union delegate, first responder, and chaplain, dedicating her career to working with the most vulnerable populations in the Bronx; and WHEREAS, Both at home and abroad Sandra Pabon served those in need; partnering with New York Cares, she collected clothes and gave away thousands of coats, and as a champion for food insecurity she pioneered "Soup for Souls" and collected perishables for her community, never turning away a hungry family and ensuring her community was fed; and WHEREAS, Together with the International Alliance of Chaplains and Law Enforcement, Sandra Pabon mobilized countless initiatives in response to natural disasters including Hurricane Maria and the landslides in Haiti, and during the COVID-19 pandemic she delivered masks, testing kits, and PPE to the elderly; and WHEREAS, Sandra Pabon was truly a beacon of light in the 80th District, and for her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her community, she was named a Bronx Power Woman; and WHEREAS, Sandra Pabon is survived by one daughter, Alex, her three cherished grandchildren, and numerous colleagues and friends who will long cherish her memory; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Sandra Pabon leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Sandra Pabon, district leader, distinguished citizen, and devoted member of her community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Sandra Pabon.
