Senate Resolution No. 1225 BY: Senator JORDAN COMMEMORATING the 225th Anniversary of the City of Hudson Fire Department WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the City of Hudson Fire Department and to honor its past and present firefighting members for 225 years of fire protection to the citizens of Hudson, New York and its surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community protection services in every locality of our State; during the past 225 years, the courageous and devoted firefighters of Hudson Fire Department have valiantly responded to all types of fire emergencies and have won the praise and respect of the community which they serve; and WHEREAS, On April 17, 1794, the first volunteer fire company in the City of Hudson was organized to protect the lives and property of Hudson's residents; prior to this, homeowners were required to respond with their leather buckets to assist their fellow city residents in extinguishing fires; and WHEREAS, Along with the organizing of Engine Company, No. 1, now known as J.W. Edmonds Hose Company, No. 1, a hand engine was purchased to be managed and operated by the firefighters; seven months later, the City of Hudson authorized the creation of Engine Company, No. 2, now called H.W. Rogers Hose Company, No. 2; and WHEREAS, Still in operation they continue to protect the lives and property of Hudson's residents; they are the two oldest active volunteer fire companies in New York State; and WHEREAS, With C. H. Evans Hook & Ladder Company, No. 3 and J. W. Hoysradt Hose & Chemical Company, No. 8, the firefighters of the all-volunteer City of Hudson Department of Fire are proud to continue this long and honored tradition; and WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of public service and fire protection is one to be envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year, for 225 years, whenever the alarm sounded, these noble volunteers left their homes and went to the aid of their neighbors; and WHEREAS, Remaining true to their mission, "Pride is our Pay", the brave firefighters of the City of Hudson Fire Department are prepared to risk their lives every day to help save the lives of others and to protect homes and property from the destruction caused by fire; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by serving as firefighters; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should give special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the betterment of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic good works performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great Empire State, their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to proudly commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the City of Hudson Fire Department; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the City of Hudson Fire Department.
