Senate Resolution No. 697 BY: Senator PARKER HONORING Michael Bloomberg upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by UNCF on March 21, 2019 WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael Bloomberg upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by UNCF to be celebrated at its "A MIND IS..." Gala on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at The Lighthouse, Pier 61, New York City; and WHEREAS, Born on February 14, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, Michael Bloomberg put himself through Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1966; and WHEREAS, Michael Bloomberg began his illustrious career on Wall Street with Salomon Brothers, quickly climbing the ladder to become partner in 1972; and WHEREAS, In 1981, Michael Bloomberg began his own company, Bloomberg L.P., built around a financial information computer which revolutionized the way securities data was stored and consumed; the company was enormously successful and soon branched into the media business with more than 100 offices worldwide; and WHEREAS, As one of the wealthiest men in the world, Michael Bloomberg chose to turn his attentions to philanthropy, with an emphasis on education, medical research and the arts; and WHEREAS, Michael Bloomberg entered the political arena in 2002, when he won the election as the 108th Mayor of New York City; he went on to serve in this capacity until January of 2014, when he returned to the esteemed position of CEO of Bloomberg L.P.; and WHEREAS, With him throughout has been Diana Taylor since 2000, as well as his two daughters, Georgina and Emma, who have all shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Michael Bloomberg upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by UNCF on March 21, 2019; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Michael Bloomberg.
