        MOURNING  the  death  of  Gregory N. Jones, family
        man,  police  officer  and  devoted  member  of  his
        community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Gregory N. Jones, died on Thursday, November 24,  2022,  at
the age of 48; and

  WHEREAS,  Gregory  N. Jones was born on June 30, 1974, to Joanne and
Gary Jones in Middletown, New York, where he grew up; after earning  his
bachelor's  degree  in Criminal Justice from St. Thomas Aquinas College,
he began his law enforcement  career  at  the  Orange  County  Sheriff's
Office working in the Mount Hope and Washingtonville Police Departments,
then  transferred  to  the City of Peekskill Police Department, where he
proudly served for 22 years; and

  WHEREAS,  Affectionately  known  to  his  Peekskill  colleagues   as
"Jonzee",  Gregory  N.  Jones took great pride in his duty and role as a
police officer, and truly wanted to make his community a better place to
live, work and play; and

  WHEREAS, Officer Gregory N. Jones liked working  with  young  people
and  served  as  a  School Resource Officer to the Peekskill City School
district,  D.A.R.E.  Instructor,  Police   Youth   Academy   Instructor,
Community  Resource  Officer,  and  a  devout  and skilled member of the
Community Policing Unit; and

  WHEREAS, In addition to  his  work,  Gregory  N.  Jones  was  always
willing  to  lend  a  helping  hand  to  various other organizations and
community events, and was actively  involved  with  the  Peekskill  Fire
Department,  where  he was known as an "honorary" PFD-Local 2343 member;
and

  WHEREAS, Gregory N. Jones will always be remembered  for  his  funny
remarks,  positive  energy,  charisma,  and  for his participation in No
Shave November, and could often be  found  carrying  around  his  gallon
water jugs and being surrounded by a copious amount of water cups; and

  WHEREAS,  Above all, Gregory N. Jones enjoyed spending time with his
cherished family, whether  it  was  coaching  his  son's  sports  teams,
playing  catch  with  his  daughter,  riding  on  his  ATV with his son,
snuggling in the morning with his daughter, a nap with his youngest,  or
just  being  with them; he was very proud of his children and took every
chance he could to show his love through one of his warm hugs; and

  WHEREAS, Predeceased by his grandmother and grandfather, Herman  and
Christine Langbein, Gregory N. Jones is survived by his wife, the former
Mary  Greenan;  six  children,  Matthew, Christopher, Rachel, Catherine,
Gregory, and Colette; his mother, Joanne Jones; many aunts, uncles,  and

cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews; and numerous friends, as well as a
legion  of firefighters and fellow police officers who will long cherish
the memory of the man who proudly wore Shield No. 15; and

  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Gregory N. Jones leaves behind  a  legacy  which  will  long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Gregory N. Jones,  family  man,  police  officer  and
devoted member of his community; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Gregory N. Jones.
