Senate Resolution No. 509

        HONORING  Alphonso  David upon the occasion of his
        designation  as  recipient   of   the   Kofi   Annan
        Leadership Award by FACE Africa on March 20, 2021

  WHEREAS,  The  unity  of  our  State  and  Nation  is built upon the
compassion of individuals such as Alphonso David who uphold  the  values
of  community  life  and who, through their great actions, epitomize the
best of humanity; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  honor  Alphonso
David  upon  the  occasion  of  his designation as recipient of the Kofi
Annan Leadership Award by FACE Africa at its Annual WASH Gala  at  home;
due  to  the ongoing global pandemic, this auspicious event will be held
virtually on Saturday, March 20, 2021; and

  WHEREAS, Called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors,  Alphonso  David  has  always  given  of
himself unstintingly; and

  WHEREAS,  As  President  of  Human  Rights Watch, Alphonso David has
tirelessly worked to  defend  the  rights  of  people  in  90  countries
worldwide, spotlighting abuses and bringing perpetrators to justice; and

  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Alphonso David has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

  WHEREAS, Rare indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown  by  an
individual  for the benefit of others which Alphonso David has displayed
throughout his life; and

  WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this  Legislative  Body
to  honor  and  support  those  individuals  who  have  displayed  their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the  intent
of  this  Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Alphonso David, that future generations  may  know  and  appreciate  his
admirable  character,  his  many  benevolent  deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Alphonso  David upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Kofi Annan Leadership Award by FACE Africa  at  its  Annual  WASH
Gala on March 20, 2021; and it be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alphonso David.
