Senate Resolution No. 40 BY: Senator BRESLIN HONORING Ellio LeMaro upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum on October 10, 2018 WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the quality and character of life in the communities across New York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ellio LeMaro upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum to be celebrated at its 19th Annual Senior Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, New York; and WHEREAS, The Capital District Senior Issues Forum is a voluntary initiative among faith communities, organizations and individuals which provides support for seniors in the capital district through education and dialogue; and WHEREAS, Since 1998, this vital organization has focused on senior housing issues by bringing together caregivers, faith organizations, government officials, housing facilities, administrators and seniors themselves; and WHEREAS, For the past 19 years, the Capital District Senior Issues Forum has honored hundreds of senior citizens over the age of 85 for their lifetime achievements; and WHEREAS, Ellio LeMaro is being recognized as an extraordinary senior for his tireless efforts in making a difference in the lives of others and for giving selflessly in community service; and WHEREAS, Born in Lima, Peru, South America, Ellio LeMaro attended a Catholic school that was run by the Salesian order; as a child, he loved to listen to American music; he taught himself English so he could translate the songs and lyrics of his idols, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day; and WHEREAS, After earning degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering, Ellio LeMaro went to work for two American companies, Standard Oil in Talara, Peru and Cerro de Pasco Corporation in La Oroya; in 1963, the American Embassy in Peru sent him a letter granting him and his family immigrant status to America; and WHEREAS, In July of 1964, Ellio LeMaro and his family proudly arrived in the United States; shortly thereafter, he received two additional engineering degrees in civil and mining engineering from Stanford University, and in 1971, he received his master's degree in construction management; and WHEREAS, Ellio LeMaro was then hired by Bechtel Corporation; throughout his tenure, he worked on important projects all over the world; and WHEREAS, A devoted member of his community, Ellio LeMaro volunteered for Little League, his church, and Boy scouts when his children were growing up; in addition, he was an AARP Safety Driving Instructor for 13 years, providing two courses a year in the Troy Senior Center; and WHEREAS, A man of many passions, Ellio LeMaro has been involved with the Writer's Group in the Troy Senior Center where he enjoys writing poetry, fiction, and non-fiction; he is also an avid fitness enthusiast, leading the popular program "Exercise with Ellio" at the Center for the last 21 years; he also rode his bike and ran a mile every evening after work; and WHEREAS, Well-known for his optimism, kindness and work ethic, Ellio LeMaro is an inspiration to many senior citizens by leading a dynamic healthy lifestyle and sharing with others his success stories; he is an involved, caring person, who is always willing and able to lend a helping hand, a listening ear and a kind word; and WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and their three sons, Erles, Arel and Ivan, all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Ellio LeMaro upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum on October 10, 2018; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Ellio LeMaro.
