GIANARIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules IN ASSEMBLY -- Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Simotas) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to authorizing pupils to carry and use sunscreen in schools; and to amend the public health law, in relation to authorizing children attending camps to carry and use sunscreen THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 907 to 2 read as follows: 3 S 907. USE OF SUNSCREEN. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OR TRUSTEES OF EACH 4 SCHOOL DISTRICT AND BOARD OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES, AND THE 5 GOVERNING BODY OF EACH PRIVATE ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY SCHOOL, 6 SHALL ALLOW PUPILS TO CARRY AND USE TOPICAL SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS, WITH THE 7 WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE PERSON IN PARENTAL RELATION TO THE PUPIL. A 8 RECORD OF SUCH PERMISSION SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE. 9 S 2. Section 1394 of the public health law is amended by adding a new 10 subdivision 3 to read as follows: 11 3. EACH CHILDREN'S OVERNIGHT CAMP, SUMMER DAY CAMP AND TRAVELLING 12 SUMMER DAY CAMP SHALL ALLOW CHILDREN ATTENDING SUCH CAMP TO CARRY AND 13 USE TOPICAL SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS, WITH THE WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE 14 PERSON IN PARENTAL RELATION TO THE CHILD. A RECORD OF SUCH PERMISSION 15 SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN THE CAMP OFFICE. 16 S 3. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall 17 have become a law.
