          read once and referred to the Committee on Housing

        AN ACT to amend the public housing law, in  relation  to  requiring  the
          review of the bylaws of certain resident councils to ensure compliance
          with federal and state law

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The public housing law is amended by adding a  new  section
     2  62 to read as follows:
     3    §  62.  Resident  councils;  compliance.  1.  For the purposes of this
     4  section, the term "resident council" shall include  any  tenant  associ-
     5  ations, resident associations, or tenant councils.
     6    2. In a city having a population of one million inhabitants or more, a
     7  municipal  housing  authority  shall  review  the bylaws of all resident
     8  councils to verify that the bylaws of such councils are  compliant  with
     9  federal and state law.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
