MILLER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to establishing guide- lines for school administrators to contact the parents of students who are bullied, harassed, intimidated or assaulted by another student THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 2 and subdivision 3 of section 2 13 of the education law, as added by chapter 482 of the laws of 2010, 3 are amended and a new subdivision 4 is added to read as follows: 4 b. to enable employees to prevent and respond to discrimination or 5 harassment; [and] 6 3. Guidelines relating to the development of nondiscriminatory 7 instructional and counseling methods, and requiring that at least one 8 staff member at every school be thoroughly trained to handle human 9 relations in the areas of race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic 10 group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, 11 gender, and sex[.]; AND 12 4. GUIDELINES REQUIRING SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS TO MAKE AN HONEST AND 13 RESPONSIBLE ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE PARENTS OF A STUDENT WHO IS BEING 14 BULLIED, HARASSED, INTIMIDATED OR ASSAULTED BY ANOTHER STUDENT WHEN SUCH 15 BULLIED, HARASSED, INTIMIDATED OR ASSAULTED STUDENT REQUESTS ASSISTANCE 16 FROM THE SCHOOL. 17 S 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same 18 manner as section 2 of chapter 482 of the laws of 2010, takes effect.
