Bill Title: Provides that in jurisdictions having a population of 60,000 or less, the time frame for a speedy trial shall be ninety days of the commencement of a criminal action wherein the defendant is accused of one or more offenses, at least one of which is a violation and none of which is a crime, instead of thirty days.

STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 9828 IN ASSEMBLY February 19, 2020 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GRIFFIN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Codes AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to speedy trials The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraphs (d) and (e) of subdivision 1 of section 30.30 of 2 the criminal procedure law, paragraph (d) as amended and paragraph (e) 3 as added by section 1 of part KKK of chapter 59 of the laws of 2019, are 4 amended to read as follows: 5 (d) thirty days of the commencement of a criminal action wherein the 6 defendant is accused of one or more offenses, at least one of which is a 7 violation and none of which is a crime. However, in those such juris- 8 dictions having a population of sixty thousand or less, such time frame 9 shall be ninety days of the commencement of a criminal action wherein 10 the defendant is accused of one or more offenses, at least one of which 11 is a violation and none of which is a crime. 12 [(e) for the purposes of this subdivision, the term offense shall13include vehicle and traffic law infractions.] 14 § 2.
