          portation  in  accordance  with  Assembly  Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee
          discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted
          to said committee

        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to establishing
          a central business district toll exemption for first responders

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 1704-a of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by
     2  adding a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows:
     3    2-a.  (a)  Notwithstanding  any  provision  to  the contrary, no first
     4  responder shall be charged a central  business  district  toll  if  such
     5  first responder is employed by the state, any municipality, a recognized
     6  corporation  or  authority,  or  certified  organization, thereof and is
     7  performing any part of their duties in such central business district.
     8    (b) For the purposes of  this  subdivision,  "first  responder"  shall
     9  include  but  not  be limited to a member of a police department or fire
    10  department,  an  emergency  medical  technician,   correction   officer,
    11  dispatcher, or other uniformed officer.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
