       AN  ACT  to  amend the labor law, in relation to providing protection to
         hotel and motel employees
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  This  act  shall  be known and may be cited as the "hotel
    2  worker protection act".
    3    S 2. The labor law is amended by adding a new section 202-l to read as
    4  follows:
    5    S 202-L.  PROTECTION  OF  HOTEL  AND  MOTEL  EMPLOYEES  FROM  ASSAULT.
    6  NOTWITHSTANDING  ANY  OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, HOTELS AND MOTELS, AS SUCH
    7  TERMS ARE DEFINED BY SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION THIRTEEN  HUNDRED  NINE-
    8  TY-NINE-J  OF  THE  PUBLIC HEALTH LAW, SHALL PROVIDE EACH HOTEL OR MOTEL
    9  ROOM ATTENDANT AND ROOM SERVICE WORKER WITH A PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICE
   10  WHICH WILL HAVE THE SOLE  AND  EXCLUSIVE  FUNCTION  OF  NOTIFYING  HOTEL
   11  MANAGEMENT OF AN EMERGENCY AT THE PUSH OF A SINGLE BUTTON.
   12    S 3. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
   13  it shall have become a law.
